Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how Spanda (“we”, “us”, or “the app”) handles information when you use our Android application. Spanda is a personal alarm, practice tracker, smart timer, widget, and lunar calendar companion published by Sadhana Tools.
By using Spanda, you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
Summary
- Your alarms, practices, moods, timers, widgets, and imported media are stored on your device.
- We do not operate a user account system or backend server for your personal data.
- We do not sell your data or show third-party ads.
- We do not embed third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
- Optional features (location, community data packs, in-app feedback, in-app purchases) are described below.
- Retention: we do not store or retain your personal data on any server we operate. Data you create in Spanda is retained on your device only, for as long as you keep it. See Data retention for the full statement, including the two optional features where you deliberately publish content.
Information stored on your device
To provide app functionality, Spanda stores the following locally on your phone or tablet:
- Alarm and chime schedules, intervals, and related settings
- Smart timer sessions and preferences
- Practice and mood audit entries
- Calendar preferences and optional event-notification settings
- Home-screen widget configuration
- Audio and image files you choose to import for alarms, wallpapers, or widgets
- Alarm reliability diagnostics (for example, recent fire events shown in Alarm Health)
- Premium entitlement state derived from Google Play purchases
This information is not transmitted to Sadhana Tools servers because we do not operate servers that collect your personal app content.
Location information (optional)
If you grant location permission, Spanda uses your device’s location only on-device to calculate sun and moon times for the calendar and related features. Location is not sent to Sadhana Tools or used for advertising.
You can deny or revoke location permission at any time in Android system settings. Calendar features that depend on location will be limited without it.
Photos and audio you import (optional)
If you import custom audio or images, Spanda reads only the files you select. Imported media is stored on your device for playback or display inside the app. We do not upload your personal media to our servers.
Community data packs (optional)
Spanda may let you browse, download, or upload optional “data packs” (shared alarm/practice bundles) via public GitHub repositories. When you use this feature:
- Your device connects to GitHub to list, download, or publish pack files you choose.
- Downloaded packs are stored on your device.
- If you upload a pack, the content you submit is published to the configured public repository and becomes visible to others according to that repository’s settings.
- GitHub’s own privacy policy and terms apply to data processed by GitHub: GitHub Privacy Statement.
You are not required to use community data packs to use the core app.
In-app feedback (optional)
If you choose to report a bug or send a suggestion from inside the app, Spanda files a public issue on our public GitHub repository containing:
- The description you typed
- A screenshot, only if you attach one (downscaled before it is sent)
- Basic technical context: app version, Android version, and device manufacturer and model
We do not attach your name, email address, or any account identifier to the report. Because the issue is public, please do not include personal or sensitive information in the description or screenshot. Sending feedback is entirely optional and is never triggered automatically.
In-app purchases
Spanda offers optional Premium features through Google Play Billing. Purchase and subscription processing is handled by Google. We receive purchase status from Google Play to unlock Premium features on your device. We do not receive your full payment card details.
Google’s privacy policy applies to billing transactions: Google Privacy Policy.
Permissions
Spanda may request the following Android permissions for stated purposes:
- Exact alarms — fire alarms and chimes at scheduled times
- Notifications — show alarm and reminder notifications
- Foreground service (media playback) — play alarm audio reliably
- Full-screen intent — show the alarm dismiss screen when appropriate
- Display over other apps — optional alarm overlay where permitted by the device
- Location — optional sun/moon calculations
- Read media (audio/images) — only when you import custom files
- Internet — optional data packs, Play Store links, and loading this policy in-app
- Boot completed — restore schedules after device restart
- Vibrate — optional alarm vibration
You can review and change most permissions in Android Settings. Some alarm features may not work correctly if required permissions are denied.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not use your data for cross-app advertising profiles.
- We do not include third-party analytics or advertising SDKs in the app.
- We do not require you to create an account with Sadhana Tools.
Android backup
If you enable Android backup on your device, some app preferences may be included in your device’s encrypted backup to your Google account or OEM backup service, according to your system settings. We do not control third-party backup providers, and such backups are retained by that provider under its own retention practices, not ours. You can turn device backup off, or delete existing backups, in your Android or Google account settings.
Data retention
Sadhana Tools does not store or retain your personal data on any server we operate. Spanda has no user accounts and no backend database of your app content, so there is no server-side copy of your alarms, practices, moods, timers, imported media, or location for us to keep, and no retention period for us to apply to it.
Our retention practices for each category of data are as follows:
- App content on your device (alarms and chime schedules, smart timers, practice and mood entries, calendar and widget preferences, alarm reliability diagnostics) — retained on your device for as long as you choose to keep it. We never receive it, and it is erased when you delete it in the app, clear the app’s storage, or uninstall Spanda.
- Location — if you use device location, the most recent coordinates and the time they were taken are saved on your device so the calendar can calculate sun and moon times without asking for a fresh fix each time. Each update overwrites the previous one, so only the latest is kept. It is never transmitted to us, and it is erased when you switch to a fixed location, clear the app’s storage, or uninstall Spanda.
- Audio and images you import — retained in the app’s storage until you remove them in the app, clear the app’s storage, or uninstall Spanda.
- Premium entitlement — the unlock state cached on your device is erased when you clear storage or uninstall. The underlying purchase record is held by Google Play under Google’s own retention practices, not ours.
- Community data packs you publish — because publishing is how the feature works, pack content you submit is retained indefinitely in the public GitHub repository and in its version history, and remains visible to others until it is removed on request (see below).
- In-app feedback you send — the issue text, any screenshot you attached, and the app and device version details are retained indefinitely as a public GitHub issue so we can track and fix the problem, until removed on request (see below).
We do not keep server-side logs, backups, or archived copies of your app content, because we do not receive it in the first place.
Deleting your data
Because your data lives on your device, you control its deletion directly:
- Delete individual alarms, practices, timers, entries, or imported media inside the app at any time.
- Clear the app’s storage (Android Settings → Apps → Spanda → Storage → Clear storage) to erase all Spanda data on the device at once.
- Uninstall Spanda to remove all of its on-device data.
For the two optional features where content is published publicly — community data packs and in-app feedback — email spanda.apps@gmail.com to request removal, and we will action reasonable requests within 30 days. Please identify the pack or issue concerned. Note that others may already have downloaded or copied publicly published content, which we cannot recall.
Children’s privacy
Spanda is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through the app, contact us and we will help you address it.
Security
We design Spanda to keep your data on your device. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we do not intentionally collect your personal app content on our own servers.
International users
If you use optional online features (for example, community data packs or Google Play), data may be processed by those service providers in countries where they operate.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date at the top. Continued use of the app after changes become effective means you accept the updated policy.
